An ability to import entries from Apple Journal would be very helpful. I’m considering to try out the app, but I’d like the reassurance that I can easily move my data back to Obsidian if I wish.
In iOS 18 settings there’s an option to export everything from Journal. I’m not sure if it was in iOS 17 too, I don’t think so. Someone not currently on the system beta needs to check that.
The exported data is a ZIP file containing three elements:
- index.html file with links to every entry,
- “Entries” folder with one HTML file per individual entry,
- “Resources” folder for attached things like photos (also audio notes I presume and so forth).

I have not looked at the Journal export format but if it's HTML there is already an option in Importer to import HTML files.
