I've come across the following:
http://www.skulpt.org/
http://repl.it/
http://brython.info/index.html

Not sure as yet which would be most suitable. There are pros and cons for each (Python version support, standard library support, syntax highlighting in editor and interactive prompt, auto indentation in editor and interactive prompt).

Using skulpt - this is coming along and should be quickly sortable once level.js is sorted... you can drive things along (ish) now, although they aren't animating correctly due to some other drawing issue (but the underlying stuff all works!)

This is now "working" with a set of functions for moving a single van around - some further refinements to be had with highlighting and such which will work on separately. Also may want to change where skulpt is kept (possibly put in the same repo with script for updating compressed js files for use on actual website?), and maybe remove a few of the added modules that we don't need (e.g. turtle), unless this could form part of an easter egg.... But I'll close this for now!
