Thanks for looking into this so quick, however, after applying that change and verifying - when I test this on my set up I get a white page with the text 'No input file specified'.

When I put the directive at the top of nginx.conf with the other fastcgi params it works fine. (Of course this then turns it on for all requests which causes other problems)

Any ideas why this could be?

I just found this page which might explain it:

By setting the HTTPS value here, it actually resets all the fastcgi_param array - so one way to fix would be to have an include file with all the fastcgi params and include it at this point.

Ok, manually including all the other fastcgi_param values at this point fixes the problem. So for this to be workable it does looks like we need an include file for the fastcgi_params.
