If FacesContext is null, then you're not using it in JSF context. OmniFaces is designed as JSF utility library and it's expected that you use it in JSF context.

Yeah I know, but sometimes i use Converter, Renderer etc... from outside of the JSF Context and now I always have to check for FacesContext ==null. I already wrote my own Util class to do this but having a Utility Class for a Utility Class kind of beats the concept ;-)

That you use a JSF converter/renderer outside the JSF context indicates a design problem. You'd better refactor the needed code logic outside the converter/renderer to a JSF-independent class, so that it can in turn be shared/reused by both the JSF converter/renderer and the other thing outside JSF context.
Not an OmniFaces problem, so I'll close the ticket.
