Issue with the default model api routes

this is one of the most frustrating parts of the codebase. it fscked me so hard , many times.

The general way we handled this at devseed was to augment the Route server, and replace the loadModel method entirely.

Personally, I think this code needs to be completely rewritten to take a different approach to the problem.

I think the middleware stack needs to be rewritten to work like the pages client side express router, which has a shared state store. Additionally, we should be storing promises for the models, so that all of the hackey jiggery pokery in this code becomes unnecessary.

This is all way out of scope for this fork, but if you find more stuff like it, please report them here so i can Properly resolve this at some point.
