That's not currently possible. Sorry. Patches are welcome! ;)

PS. less -R allows ANSI colors.

sadly less -R does not support elasticsearch protocol

Considering I started poking golang yesterday, my patches would probably be not welcome ;) but I'll try.

I'm wondering would be a best approach to that, it seems to me that best place to define formatter would be on backend creation and fallback to SetFormatter's value if it was not defined on creation.

Yes, or at least expose a function to set the formatter where possible, eg. on the syslog backend add a SetFormatter function and use that insead of the rec.Formatted call. Maybe it would even be possible to add SetFormatter on to the backend interface, but that might break any existing code.
