I made a pull request with a possible solution here: #28
I guess the reason why that detail is missing from the metadata is that the image was not generated with a standard scan but using the Nikon Large Image Scan tool.

Thank you for your efforts @ggirelli!
I think it does make sense to implement this fallback behavior.
I've added a few small remarks/questions in the PR.
Will merge it as soon as those are resolved!
