You have to point it to <llvm installation>/lib/cmake/llvm. Try running
cmake -DLLVM_DIR=/usr/local/opt/llvm/lib/cmake/llvm -DLLD_DIR=/usr/local/opt/llvm/lib/cmake/lld
If you're on the develop branch you'll likely get llvm issues, because develop was built against LLVM 11.0 but as of this writing the most recent version of LLVM is 17/18. A lot of the API has changed.
The project is going through some heavy refactoring right now so I don't know what mac support looks like. If you want to help out, you could try to get the features/better-ast branch to compile on mac. There are a few functions in the odb-sdk project that are not implemented on mac yet.
