Adding support for Game Controller is going to be a bigger and bigger issue going forward, especially as Chrome is listed as a conflicting app with the current system. This means that other Chromium browsers (eg Brave) as well as other Electron-based apps may conflict.

Telling users to close every single other app is confusing and unfortunate. Defaulting to the Game Controller API would also mean users would no longer have to add OpenEMU in Privacy -> Input. The current out-of-box experience is not good - download it, open it, add it to Privacy/Input, and if you happen to have a browser open (eg the one you just used to download) it doesn't work.

Oh, and it might be easier to add a checkbox or alternative input selection in the UI to just simply use Game Controller or OpenEMU HID instead of trying to hook these up/integrate. Then just default to Game Controller for new users and leave the OpenEMU HID implementation for those who need the milliseconds for input.
