Openshift does not support basic auth authentication to the API directly. You can use basic auth to obtain an OAuth token like oc login does: https://github.com/openshift/origin/blob/master/pkg/cmd/util/tokencmd/request_token.go#L72 This only works if your configured IDP supports challenge flows.
