strange conversion to the file names
I thought that happened only when a Mac file system was involved. I tried to work around that. See exist.py.

When you run the media check on the desktop, do you get the effect of this image?

Could you please check if you have the newest version.

Do you know what file system your collection is on? When it gets too big (too many media files), you should migrate away from FAT32, typically by using an external SD card formatted with NTFS or a real file system like ext4.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

To be honest, I do have a Mac laptop, with which I occasionally sync my collection.

The image seems to be related to my problem - you can see, how the umlaut in two file names is slightly different.

I have version 2.8.1 - is it different from 2.8.2 with regards to file name management? I looked at github diffs and nothing was obviously related...

And my SD card is currently vfat, but AnkiDroid stores its data on an ext4 partition, so I don't think there is an issue here.

I've tried the unnormalize add-on. I think it has corrected some of the files, so let's hope it's not the end of the world...

Please report back (re-open) when you are sure that you get this with freshly downloaded files.
Otherwise i will assume that this was a file downloaded on a Mac before i fixed this normalization issue.
