If you have some suggestions how to redesign the secure cookie I am willing to pull these patches. I am not happy myself with it either, especially the fact that it currently base64 encodes stuff in a weird way. It would be much more interesting to use actual json there which currently is not possible. If json is selected the keys are still base64 encoded strings.

If anyone's interested in this, it's probably reasonable to implement it on top of itsdangerous, which is what Werkzeug's implementation should switch to anyway.
