Your editor may need to have its settings updated. GPE is ran on SDL2 and not a Native GUI system like QT or WxWidgets so it is being updated at least every 30 FPS.
So go to User Settings( F2 ) -> IDE Frame CAP( Select 30FPS), then go to Uncheck Draw Every Frame. Hit save and see does that speed up the experience. The Latest Release Candidate for 1.13 is now availalble. So be sure to try that version out.
I will also investigate the issue of the double slashes.
Also, what are the specs of your PC?
