What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Use non ascii characters in a photo title (ex. accented vowels)
2. Use the default file naming scheme (title as the name)
3. Use photoshare with "Export metadata" marked
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should add metadata to the photos but it doesn't. The file creation date is
also wrong.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I have over 500 very old photos from my family that I'm retouching and tagging
for posterity. I'd rather work on them in Lightroom/Photoshop and then in
iPhoto as high-resolution 16-bit TIFFs, but when I'm exporting via phoshare,
it's so I can put the photos on my iphone, iPad, etc., where I need the file
size and format of a medium-resolution (2MP or so) JPEG file.
It would be awesome if phoshare could do this file conversion on the fly as
part of its export, ensuring that my iPhoto metadata (including faces and
geotags) make it into the JPEGs that I then sync or share with other family
members.

1.Create an event "EVENT_for_Test" in iPhoto with some modified photos
2.Using Phoshare, export the event with "Export Originals" option checked
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Whereas we should get a folder "EVENT_for_Test" with modified photos and

Phoshare correctly concatenates a "_N" onto duplicate filenames, where N is
incremented for each duplicate filename. However, it is not case sensitive,
resulting in missing photos. If you have multiple files with the same file
names, but different capitalizations, those files will be overwritten and not
considered unique.
Example:
If I have two photos titled "Christmas Morning", Phoshare will correctly export
"Christmas Morning.jpg" and "Christmas Morning_1.jpg". But if I have one photo
titled "Christmas Morning" and another titled "Christmas morning", I would
EXPECT to have two exported photos, one called "Christmas Morning.jpg" and
another called "Christmas morning.jpg". But what REALLY HAPPENS is I get just
ONE photo called "Christmas morning.jpg"
This needs fixed so images are not erroneously missing during exports. Thanks!
(I'll look at submitting a patch if I can figure out a fix.)

(First off -- this program is a god-send. Thank you so much for creating and
sharing.)
Is it possible to have the iPhoto titles written to the IPTC Title or Headline
field?
When exporting files via the built-in iPhoto exporter, there is an option to
embed Titles in the file. When I upload those files using Flickr uploader, it
is able to extract that title -- and not the file name -- as the title
displayed on the site.
This is a slight issue for me for two reasons:
1) I have tons of pictures that are titled exactly the same. I'd like the
titles to stay "clean" (i.e. without a _12 tagged to the end), regardless of
the filename.
2) For titles that contain any sort of character -- "Hawai'i", for example --
export with spaces and underscores for filenames, which end up the only "Title"
identification.

Choose a picture A in iPhoto, copy it as A'. So A = A'.
Modify the picture A to B.
Modify the picture A' to C.
Use Phoshare to export.
Use fdupes to find duplicate file : you will find A and A'.
I can't say it's a bug. Some won't want to have duplicates in their results,
some will, and most won't mind. Often, when B an C are in the same "event", one
wouldn't like to have dupes in the Original directory. But when in different
events ?
Maybe the best would be just to warn the phoshare user.

Proshare outputs e_ instead of é in folders and file names.
I was wondering if you could use a library like Ruby's Unidecoder
(https://github.com/norman/unidecoder) or Perl's Unidecode to translate french
- or any other language - special characters to ASCII chars ? I'm using
StringEx which includes code from Unidecoder to translate UTF-8 japanese,
spanish and french strings to [a-z0-9-] characters, and it works well.
Thanks again for you work !

This is more a request for support, sorry if its in the wrong place...
How would one change the export path? At the moment it creates a folder
hierarchy like this:-
Album Name/Events/Event Names/
As I will be exporting this straight to my NAS drive for viewing on ATV, I dont
want the two top folders, Album Name/Events, because it adds two unnecessary
navigation steps when going to view my photos.. I would like the Event Names
folders to be added right into my export folder root.
Is this possible? I dont mind editing the files if you point me in the
direction, although I have never edited Mac apps before, would it need to be
recompiled or something?
Thanks a lot
Laurence

- Picassa web has an limit on 1.000 photos/videos in a album so a nice feature
would be for Phoshare to have a auto split function that splits an album over
1.000 photos.
if i try to do this manuelly Phoshare will add the photos in the album again
(it will see the split away files as new files

Hi, despite being completely naieve about script etc, I have used phoshare with
success for balancing iphoto and picasa.
Unfortunately, seemingly out of the blue I have encountered a problem when
running phoshare. Instead of running through my events and updating any changes
to the Albums folder (which I have been able to do numerous times with no
problems), I now get an error every time...
The read out is as follows:

--update --faces --iptc --gps --verbose
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I was expecting to see only the "create"line for my new photos, but instead
I've seen "delete obsolete direction" with all my folders containing all my
events, and then recreate new directories of all my events.
I've noticed that the deleted directories looked like :
Obsolete exported file: /Volumes/photo/Serge et Cathy/2007_11_27 diaporama
1/016 IMG 0440m.jpg
and the new one
New file: /Volumes/photo/Serge et Cathy/2007_11_27 diaporama 1/016
IMG_0440m.jpg (copy)
Only the space in the file name {title} has been replaced by a _
Is it a known issue or is it a new feature of phoshare (maybe to create
direction without any space?)
In that case is there a solution not for erasing all my pictures from my NAS
and then just recopy it with a new file name?
Thanks a lot

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.4.2 just downloaded. Note OS 10.5.6 as in the crash report. 1.3.6 runs fine.
Anything else I can supply, please let me know. I wonder if this is because the
new version links to some files that would update if I risked updating my
Hackintosh?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Here is the command line I use:
sudo /Applications/Phoshare.app/Contents/MacOS/Phoshare -a "cadre" -n
"\${index}-\${caption}" -d -u --size 800 --export /Users/Serge/Desktop/Temp/
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Name of the file expected :"1-DSC00056"
outpout name of the file:" 1- DSC00056"
It add 2 spaces one at the begining and one after the "-" and before the
original name of the picture.
It actually makes this picture ureadable by the Multimedia Server of my NAS
which is accessible by uPnP by my photoframe.
I've tried with another uPnP player (xbmc) and it reproduces the issue.
Therefore I think my NAS is not able to access picture with name beginning by
space (and maybe with space I've not tried yet because of the time my NAS spend
to re-index the multimedia server while changing file name)
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
the last one 1.3.6 on MacOS 10.6.4
Please provide any additional information below.

Hi I'm actually trying to use your software to synchronize my iphoto album with
my NAS (Network Attached Storage) in order to backup iphoto library to another
place, but also make it accessible to the other computers
(linux, windows, android), and even online with a webserver (photostation).
It's actually working good and all my events are placed in folder and is named
properly...But there is quite an issue with the chronology because other
computer and webserver browsing my network disk see it in alphabetical order...
Would it be possible to add an option to add a prefix (such as number and
separator ie "1 -") before event name while creating new folder?
For the old events creating incrementally folders (1 - Winter | 2 - Summer | 3-
Autumn) should not be a problem but maybe adding new events after 1st syncing
between 2 existing folder could be more difficult...In that case I suggest
using subcategory such as 1a 1b 1c which can solve the alphabetical order and
displaying properly event in the right chronology even if they are created
afterwards
It would help me classifying properly my folder on my network and could be in
my point of view a good enhancement for other users of phoshare.
Thanks a lot for all you've already done with phoshare It's really amazing to
find such a good software for free I'm really appreciative of your work

I try to export my photo library from iPhoto 10 on a Mac OS X 10.6.5.
All events selected, approx. 10k photos in total.
ExifTool installed, export of Metadata selected.
Output:
Folder structure is created correctly.
All photo files are created, but some files have 0 KB. It cannot be a problem
with the photo camera because some photos within the same album shot with the
same camera are broken and some are not (see attached picture).

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Take a picture with no location info and add it manually within iPhoto
environment
2. Put that in an Album and export it via proshare
3. Re-Import the picture in a new iPhoto Library - Location info are not there!
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect having location related to that picture

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run Phoshare with image that have Captions / Descriptions in iPhoto
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Captions written to the Caption-Abstract field as typed. Instead, there seems
to be a line break at the end?
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.4.5
Please provide any additional information below.
Looking through the source, I think the newline is introduced when the utf8
encoded string is written to the tmp file
print >> file1, new_caption.encode("utf-8")
"file1" has a new line at the end of it. running "exiftool" on the file shows
the Caption-Abstract to have a period at the end; looking at the file info in
Finder shows a line break (attached image).

Hello there,
I'm just a user and I want to thank everyone involved to make this useful apps.
I have some question
1. Is there an option to set the filenames as the "original" filename from
camera?
So it's not base on the event.
2. Could the album name have "& '" and other symbols?
Because at the end the folders with symbols replaced by "_"
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
1. An option to set the files name as original filename
2. Could support symbols

I have two internal drives, a boot drive and a larger drive with all my photos
and videos. I also attached another external drive to my computer to export to.
When I do the export it seems to be working fine but my boot drive is being
written to when I'm trying to go from my larger internal to my external. After
a restart I dont get that space back. I have no idea where its writing to and
what on the internal boot drive. I've check the setting multiple times to make
sure that the source and export folder are correct. I'm using 1.4.7 on Leopard.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. When the code was started after I changed my iPhoto library.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected Phoshare to choose new iPhoto library that I changed to in iPhoto.
Phoshare just stuck to the path of the old library which caused error since I
removed that one. The browse button was inactive so I cannot choose new library
by myself.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I have a 66,000 pic iPhoto library that I have been exporting with Phoshare
1.0.6 using the command line:
/Applications/Phoshare.app/Contents/Resources/Phoshare.py -e . -d -k -u --size
1920x1920^ --iphoto "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" --export "~/Dropbox/iPhoto

Phoshare gets through about 6,000 photos and then presents the following error
(consistently -- happens when rerunning Phoshare too...)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. with a non-english AlbumData.xml file, run the following script (attached as
show_Photos_issue.py):
###
import appledata.iphotodata as ID
i = ID.get_iphoto_data('AlbumData.xml', verbose=True)
for album in i.albums.values():
if album.master:
print "album type of master album: %s" % album.albumtype
i.check_photos()
###
(tested with a german iPhoto 8.1.2 AlbumData.xml file)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- expected:
$ python show_Photos_issue.py
Reading iPhoto database from ...
album type of master album: Master
- actual output
$ python show_Photos_issue.py
Reading iPhoto database from ...
No album type for Fotos.
album type of master album: None
No Photos album in library.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Phoshare 1.4.7 (currently testing only the AlbumData.xml parsing on Linux)
Please provide any additional information below.
- patch file that should IMHO fix this is attached
- I can supply an AlbumData.xml file to demonstrate on request, but would have
to prepare one not including any of my personal information first.

A Phoshare user reported:
By the way, is there any reason why iPhoto and Phoshare reports different
numbers of photos? Phoshare says there's 52,809 photos detected in
AlbumData.xml; compared to 53,136 in iPhoto 9.1.1. How might I go about
diagnosing and resolving this? (I wonder if this is an iPhoto AlbumData.xml
problem rather than a Phoshare problem?)
NB -- This isn't critical for my current usage - which is to use the link mode
to modify the iPhoto source images, but I would imagine I and others would want
to know if the resulting export would be missing photographs. Thank you for
any help.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
--------------------------
1. Assume an iPhoto '09 libary for wich the last import was over 100 files and
for which the libary is located at /Users/Shared/iPhoto Library
2. Excute the following from the terminal
./Phoshare.py --iphoto "/Users/Shared/iPhoto Library" --export "/Users/Shared/Our Pictures/inBox/Last Import" -k -u -s "Last Import" --verbose
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
--------------------------
I expected the "Last Import" images and videos to be copied over along with the
relevant IPTC info. No files were copied.
The actual output was
Reading iPhoto database from /Users/Shared/iPhoto Library...
Scanning iPhoto data for photos to export...
Scanning existing files in export folder...
Exporting photos from iPhoto to export folder...
[BigMac] Resources $
The issue appears to be with the smart folder as other folders do just fine.
According to the scripting documentation it should be possible to use the "Last
Import" smartfolder - and I'm presuming this is not a custom built one but the
default one found in iPhoto under the "Recent" section.
--------------------------
Latest version of Phosare on OSX 10.6.4 with iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)

1. Configure the "folder names" to be "{yyyy}/{mm}/{name}"
2. Run the export or dry run
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Not so much of a problem, but a feature that I'd like, currently this setting
creates a folder named something like '2011_02_My Event Name' and puts the
files in there. What I would like is to create sub folders, so there would be
a folder 2011 with a sub folder 02 and a sub folder of 'My Event Name' under
02. So instead of Album/2011_02_My Event Name/DSC0001.jpeg, I'd have
Album/2011/02/My Event Name/DSC0001.jpeg.
