If using the tools on the canvas doesn’t seem to have any effect, please make sure you are on the correct layer. Drawing tools can’t be used on Camera or Sound layers. Also, please note that Pencil2D does not automatically create a new drawing when you navigate to a different frame and instead uses the most recent one on the current layer. You must either do so manually by using the “Add Frame” / “Duplicate Frame” buttons on the timeline (standard keyboard shortcuts: F7/F6) or adjust the default behaviour in Edit → Preferences → Timeline → When drawing on a an empty frame.
