I think all the relevant CV generators have an infinite spectrum. Maybe the Hilbert space truncation used by the Fock backends allows you to ignore all but a finite set of eigenvalues (in the sense that the result is already approximate and won't become that much worse if you do this).

Also there may be finite-dimensional systems where it can be relevant, e.g. quantum processors based on NV centers in diamond, where the local Hamiltonians may have 3 distinct eigenvalues.

What is the status with this idea? Have we found any use-case where it does something better than what we have otherwise?
