Definitely would be a nice project for a student!
The main thing would be to figure out how well it fits with the existing formalism. I think it could fit within our current abstraction of quantum functions (though the accompanying QNode would not take the form of a circuit). What about gradients? Is anything known there for annealing-type devices?

I just gave the documentation a quick look. It would definitely work as a QNode. The expectation values of observables can be computed from the returned samples, or the output can be an average energy or similar...
Gradients of, say, the energy with respect to individual Hamiltonian terms, can be computed analytically, but I doubt that the resulting expressions can be calculated on a D-Wave machine. But who knows, maybe in some cases something can be done... Of course there are always gradient free methods...
