Your error seems to indicate that you're missing a mono assembly, you need System.Runtime.Serialization -- search synaptic or whatever it is to find it.

Installed Mono System.Runtime.Serialization Library but it seems only 2.10.1 is available in Ubuntu and the plugin is looking for 3.0.0

I have an ubuntu 11.04 install running, and it has System.Runtime.Serialization v3.0.0; this seems like a bug you'll need to raise up on launchpad/ubuntu -- also make sure you have the latest mono installed; I don't know why, but you might have an older version? (check the package list)

Solved by installing libmono2.0-cil (libmono4.0-cil was installed by default).
