Contributing to Phalcon (in general) is reasonably easy. All you will need is to ensure that there is an issue behind your contribution, whether this is a bug or a NFR etc. If it is a big piece of functionality such as a NFR, you can ping us on discord to discuss the implementation and then it will be up to you. The reason for that is we do not want to overload the framework with stuff that people would never use (been there done that), plus it is good to align how the framework will evolve with new functionality.

If you wish, send me a message on discord and we can discuss how to address this.

Finally, setting up an environment locally to work on phalcon only requires docker so it is quite simple.

+1, I think this is a great feature to implement as beanstalkd is rolled out of cphalcon. It opens up doors to things like Laravel Horizon. Doing a swap from beanstalkd queue to redis queue would be great. If it could be implemented in a way that would put minimal changes required for currently existing applications built on top of beanstalkd, it would make the swap as easy as possible for currently existing applications using beanstalkd as a direct replacement for it.

Tbh im thinking simply about class which will we extend and just run it in cli to consume jobs added into queue and that's it, in previous beanstalkd we would need to do it ourselves.

Wouldn't RabbitMQ fit better than Redis as a message queue?

JABirchall avatar JABirchall commented on May 10, 2024

It would prolly be a good idea to add adapters for popular maintained queue services.

  • ZMQ
  • RabbitMQ
  • AQS
  • ActiveQ

Redis would be the easiest to impliment since phalcon already had a redis adapter would just need a wrapper ontop of that to add queue functionality

etc etc

Closing in favor of phalcon/cphalcon#13855. Will revisit if the community votes for it, or in later versions.

Awkwardly enough this nfr is 6y old. Would love to try myself by contributing here, but contributing guidelines left me clueless. What would be your idea to execute this functionality. How should I proceed, to contribute in a good fashion way, allowing you to easily pull and publish?
