yes, i am also confused why don't we just use kubenetes api to delete pods?i think it's more convinient.

The reason for executing docker kill as opposed to telling kubernetes to kill the pod, is because this simulates a process crash - and tests your setup in terms of how it recovers from a real-world situation.

When you are telling kubernetes to delete things, you are making it easier for it to behave correctly - you're effectively only testing a small part of the process that needs to happen.

In the case when you don't have SSH access, it's better to do the latter than nothing, but I'd argue that simulating a crash is the right default.
