Allow empty name array when updating exercise entry

I don't want to add a bunch of logic to my init function because it is only meant to serialize whatever object it is given. I think the best solution is to call init on the exercise exactly as you wish it to exist in the database (you should have all that information already, such as the current names). The other option is to create a bunch of functions for updating each property of an exercise in the database, which could make your save exercise involve many data layer function calls and be more time consuming for me.

I could possibly encode the complete exercise object in the HTML so the client can access it. If I could submit the whole exercise object, would it be able to differentiate between names that already have ids and ones that don't?

Yes. It's already set up to INSERT if no id and UPDATE otherwise.
