this select field isn't for filtering the language-key, as the language in which the hook is written doesn't matter for the end user in most cases. it instead is for filtering the types-key which can be configured for each hook in your .pre-commit-hooks.yaml file (https://pre-commit.com/#config-types).

the dropdown is then automatically generated - as there currently are no hooks with types=[r], r isn't listed.

additional info: the association type <-> file-extension is done with identify (https://github.com/pre-commit/identify/blob/master/identify/extensions.py#L156). you probably have to extend this library for .rmd files etc. before being able to use types= in all your hooks.

Thanks @paulhfischer. I noted the use of identify. Have to think how I can use tags, because R has quite a few different file types (.Rprofile, .Rmd, .R, DESCRIPTION etc.) that are quite specific to R and I am not sure the maintainer of identify wants to add all of them (to avoid convolution) but I can suggest it over there.
