This probably has to do with the running mode you're using, as when running Prey on user-mode the user may not have the privileges to modifiy the files in the Prey installation path.

When running on system mode there should be no problem, however.

Can you please confirm your OS version and running mode? Thanks.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. It is set as Run as Windows Service. I will let you know more information if another version is released and auto update does not find it. The only thing is that does auto update automatically receive the update right away or is there a delay by telling the auto update that there is an update, and needs to update. Please confirm. Thanks

Still having problems with this. It did not update to v5, so I had to manually update it. When it was done, I found out the v5.1 was released a few days later. It did not update to 5.1 either. Not sure what the problem may be here...

Hi Nadim,

The cause of problem is probably much simpler. On free accounts the XML file Prey gets (which includes the current version info) is cached, so until you click the Save changes button on the Control Panel the file will not be refreshed, and thus, Prey won't know there's a new version to download and update.

So the solution is probably just one click away. :)

So this is what I did. Went to the prey website, logged in etc. Went to configuration, auto update was on, so turned it off, saved the changes. Then turned it back on and saved the changes. Hopefully this will fix the issue. Ill let you know once again when there is another version released after 0.5.1. Thanks

0.5.2 released today. I have downloaded it, but not installed it. Prey did not update automatically...can we try and look into this as this is a pain to check prey's website every time to see if they released a newer version

So I tried doing what you mentioned before, and it worked, but had to wait for prey to update (so turn off auto-update), then wait for prey to update again (turn on auto-update) and it updated to 0.5.2. But will this occur again if a newer version of Prey is released? Seems like a bug to me..Thanks
