this is a utility object that captures the git sha. It is automatically regenerated by cmake and linked with every compile. One way to solve this would be to port this functionality to node-OSRM.

that would be feasible. But the fact that is is unused in node-osrm code and results in this symbol error seems like a bug in libOSRM?

That's true. I suspect that there is some strange (and unintended) chain of includes.
