The fix is setting the option MaxResponseBodySizeToRead: math.MaxInt32 when using body hash.

Tracing through the CLI - code flow was going to be my next step and although Im sure I would have learned something you saved me a lot of time. Will copy the default options in any future projects.

While I personally think that HTTPX should set that as a default when hashing is enabled - setting it manually works if you know it is needed. Going to close it out as this fixed my bug.

Use MaxResponseBodySizeToRead: math.MaxInt32, to solve the issue. The default value in CLI is also math.MaxInt32.
