It's nonsense. No company would throw away the source code for a camera firmware (or any source code that was used on a commercial product). It's simply too valuable: autofocus, auto white balance, HDR are all features that aren't easy to implement. And the fact that third parties might have access to it instead is concerning to say the least. I don't think it's true anyway.
The only solution I can think of is to track down the employees that worked on the project trough LinkedIn and ask them directly.

That's great to hear! I'm really interested in this project, given the raw potential of the sensor itself. Keep me updated!

I sent a request to Yi support, and received this response:

Thank you for contacting Kami Vision/YI Support!

Unfortunately we do not have the source codes for that particular product anymore since it has already been discontinued. You could check other 3rd party websites out there that may have the source codes available.

Sorry, we could not help you with concern. Should you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Have a great day ahead!

I don't quite believe that any company in this time and day would just be able to lose source code to one of their products. I'm guessing they're just not keen on sharing it. It would be quite unfortunate if that were true though.

Judging by the lack of an answer, the result is not very good?
