I manage to replicate the issue locally by running this command:
venv/bin/python -m semantic_release -v version --commit --push --changelog --vcs-release
. And I am getting[semantic_release.version.algorithm] INFO algorithm.next_version: The type of the next release release is: no_release
.
Can you provide a link to your repository or provide the output from git log --graph --decorate --oneline --all
? You get this message generally when the commit parser determines there are no significant commits between the last release and the current checked out head.
But when I run the CLI command
semantic-release publish
, the version is bumped and committed.
This is actually not possible on the latest version as publish does not have any logic to make a version release. It only knows how to upload distribution artifacts to a previous release on the remote. Sounds like you have already published the latest tag and publish is selecting the latest tag locally.

Also patch_without_tag
is no longer a valid configuration option. I would recommend not linking to @master
within your uses
statement but rather link to at least the latest major version. That will prevent breaking changes from breaking your CI
