I see what you mean. On the other hand, Reacture (the initial name I thought of) is incredibly boring :)

FranklinChen avatar FranklinChen commented on May 7, 2024

Ha, yeah, Reacture doesn't work either. In fact, seeing the word I wouldn't know what it referred to. I think "fracture" or "picture" or "creature". How about something like Clojureactor? (Hmm, I'm kind of proud of that one.)

I like the name "Reajure" pronounced "reassure." Suggested in GitHub component.

Reagent's good. Other ideas: Reactor? Catalyst? (Reactr if you're looking for something relatively searchable?). I'd suggest there really doesn't have to be any "Clo" or "jure" in the name.

DarrenN avatar DarrenN commented on May 7, 2024

Catalyst is pretty cool.

holmsand avatar holmsand commented on May 7, 2024

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

What do you think about "Creact"?

I kind of think it is nice and short, fairly distinctive, and hopefully a bit descriptive (as in "React with a C for Clojure"). And to my ears it sounds sort of creative and suitably self-important...

But, given my track record when it comes to naming, does it remind anyone of something utterly disgusting?

jonase avatar jonase commented on May 7, 2024

creact is good IMO. If you like it you should definitely go for it!

It's a great library whatever you end up calling it. I've been porting an old app to creact/cloact/reagent (still my favorite) and it drastically simplifies the UI.

Thanks!

@djKianoosh I believe the problem is that it'd be pronounced similarly to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloaca

What do you think about "Creact"?

I would vote against this. Reagent seems popular, and isn't bad. Otherwise I'd go with any regular word that's comfortable to pronounce. Really don't think it needs to be punny. I'd outright avoid anything with "Clo" or "jure" in it.

A common approach might be to choose a word that's thematically related without being a mishmash of words: so reagent (something used in a chemical reaction), catalyst (something that causes or increases a chemical reaction), reactor (a container of a chemical reaction), or if you're feeling creative - tokamak (a kind of reactor), etc.

Cheers :-)

holmsand avatar holmsand commented on May 7, 2024

Thanks, that seems like good advice.

Reagent is good enough, so unless a really good alternative pops up, it looks like I have some renaming to do :-)

Reagent it is!

The project is now renamed, but the API is exactly the same as before, so switching is just a matter of search-and-replace, and updating the version in project.clj.
