I think it's an improvement! If I were to add anything, it would be a short description in the list at the top, briefly explaining what category is.

The README definitely needs a clean up, and the previous JSON->OHLOH->Readme scripts broke some time ago and nobody had any time to replace them with something that worked.

I've going to merge all the JSON files into a README in the v.near future and then start to try and add categories to it and put things in the right place. Your list is a great start, so if you don't mind I'll just adapt that.

I've arbitrarily decided to move back to a single README (see #242) with a simple page that looks like (https://github.com/redecentralize/alternative-internet/blob/e9c3916fde67ca8e8d55fa1a7f40f3c3f511c3b6/README.md).

I'd like to categorise the rest of the items, and then maybe add badges for active,inactive projects.

WDYT, should I merge it (and then categorise)?
