I dug into this a little bit, and came to the conclusion that there's no other way. Here are our choices:

  1. Just continue as-is - a stray "sync success" notification will continue to break tests, tests will continue to break because notifications take too long to appear
  2. Just remove notification checking period. for tests that need a verification, use api
  3. use api for tasks success check

I vote for 1) because the notifications are a part of the UI, they are somewhat busted, and our tests are saying so. We can't just stop testing them because dev hasn't gotten around to fixing.

We can probably be better at capturing multiple notifications and ignoring ones like "sync success".
