I just hit this as well using NeoVim v0.2.0-212-gd2998a0a and clang-format @ c1c9bd1

I don't remember this behavior before, so when I get some time I will try to roll back both and find when this started.

@expipiplus1 I rolled back neovim/vim-clang-format a couple months and still had the behavior, I think I just haven't used split with clang-format before (only use it for a minority of the code bases I work on)

but that vim-go solution looks really promising, are you going to open a PR with that? I am happy to take care of it also, but can't until this weekend.

I'm afraid I don't use clang format at the moment so am probably not the best person to open a PR.

I've made this change to another library and it worked very well nbouscal/vim-stylish-haskell#8
