I have submitted for chrome v2.9 it's review are pending and it will take more than 72 hr. Till you can use Firefox then after it will public chrome extension will automatically updated.

Is there a way to download the 2.9 version and force to install on Chrome?

Yes, you can do that. Go to release version and download latest zip and turn on developer option from extension menu in chrome browser unzip downloaded latest zip and select folder.
