Yes. I made some notes to myself about how to trap errors and provide useful error messages. I think it's easy to check for absence of a likelihood function, which would be enough here, right?

Checking for the absence of a likelihood function would solve the problem
perfectly. I just didn't realize it would be easy to do. I guess you
could make sure it has "x" and "log" arguments, for instance. Not
foolproof, but probably good enough.

Anyway, hope this was useful.
