@gwkunze - I haven't ever considered this scenario. Can you share jQuery between the windows too or does that not help in this case?

Sharing jquery between windows doesn't work, the problem being that jquery (or jquery ui) has some references to the current document (NOT the iframe), I created a small demo of this: http://plnkr.co/cJo5cPHnViD5vpPZJEXl . In the parent window the list is sortable but in the iframe dragging only works if your mouse moves ouf of the iframe and into the parent document.
