@kkrueger - there is not currently an option to not re-render the element. I recall spending quite a bit of time at one point trying to make it work that way, but was unsuccessful. I hope to revisit this idea at some point.

It may be possible to do this with Knockout 3.0 and observable view models.

Is it possible to update observable arrays silently? (plugin can for example provide option for sortable binding, silentUpdate).

// line: 205
if (targetIndex >= 0) {
    if (sortable.silentUpdates) {
        sourceParent = unwrap(sourceParent);
        targetParent = unwrap(targetParent);
    }
    if (sourceParent) {
        sourceParent.splice(sourceIndex, 1);

        //if using deferred updates plugin, force updates
        if (ko.processAllDeferredBindingUpdates) {
            ko.processAllDeferredBindingUpdates();
        }
    }

    targetParent.splice(targetIndex, 0, item);
}

//rendering is handled by manipulating the observableArray; ignore dropped element
// dataSet(el, ITEMKEY, null);
// ui.item.remove();

In this case foreach binding will not receive change event from observable array. Does I miss something important?
