@beechnut I love the idea of adaptive defaults like this. We'd have to do a major version change (because it would break where people were previously relying on the current default), but that's fine. Interested in doing a pull request, or at least speccing out if there are additional ways we could get better at defaults?

I'd be happy to write some spec, at least. It might take me a while to get to -- I have another project that's taking up almost all of my spare time.
