I've not used Ransack, so can't help you with anything specific there.

Does the search form properly route to index?

Your params[:q] is populated in index?

Do @search and @Translators get populated in the controller?

I am terribly sorry for mistakenly thinking this is related to Casein. I realized I made a silly error and fed ransack the wrong arguments. For those reading, the change lies in the third argument passed to options_from_collection_for_select:
<%= f.select :languages_name_eq, options_from_collection_for_select( Language.all, :name, :name ), include_blank: "no preference" %>
