So it looks like Eclipse does not have the root SSL certificate used on Github Pages. How can I add that to Eclipse?

Used the explanation at http://eclipsesource.com/blogs/2013/04/19/installing-eclipse-plug-ins-from-an-update-site-with-a-self-signed-certificate/

echo -n | openssl s_client -connect rustdt.github.io:443 | sed -ne '/-BEGIN CERTIFICATE-/,/-END CERTIFICATE-/p' > rustdt.cert
keytool -import -alias custom-ssl -file rustdt.cert -keystore ~/custom.truststore

Then edit eclipse.ini and add

-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=/home/klausi/custom.truststore
-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword=abcdefgh

WTF, what did I just do? Anyway, that fixed the installation problem.

It turns out my ca-certificates-java package was broken on Ubuntu. Fixed it with:

sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates-java
sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java

Got it from http://stackoverflow.com/a/33440168/2000435
