About Scott Smith

I'm glad you are interested in me! Here are some points that highlight my diverse background and that may be of interest to you. You might be interested as well in my LinkedIn profile or my AngelList profile or my portfolio.

The Professional Highlights

Since December 2021 I have worked at Simple Fractal, starting as a junior full-stack software engineer, quickly dropping the junior title, and now am working as a Bot Curator for the RPA (Robotic Process Engineering) side of the company. What is a Bot Curator? A fancy title for one who debugs software robots, monitors their health, and improves backend processes related to the RPA engineering team.

The Technical Highlights

  • My RPA work for Simple Fractal primarily involves backend work:

    • Heavy use of Javascript in a Node.js context
    • Extensive interaction with AWS (lambdas, parameter store, cloud watch, event bridge, S3), including with serverless.yml files
    • Regular use of SQL in PostgresSQL
    • Some use of Python
    • Occassional use of Docker
  • I am a graduate of App Academy (on GitHub @appacademy), trained as a full-stack software engineer. A list of relevant technologies learned were:

    • and (Unit Testing)
  • I have a past background in (primarily) self-taught HTML and CSS (currently still ranking fairly high (put TagName = css and UserId = 0 for all user ranking; as of 9/2/2020 I was 30th) for answering CSS questions on Stack Overflow; my SO profile).

  • I also have some prior self-taught experience with JavaScript (including some libraries, like MooTools and Bootstrap); but I'm learning much more through App Academy!

  • I also have dabbled in some PHP (mainly related to Wordpress sites).

Some Educational Highlights

  • I have a Bachelor of Science in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Oregon (emphasis was drawing and painting; minor was architectural design).
  • I have a Master of Bible Exposition and Master of Divinity from Pensacola Theological Seminary.
  • I have a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from (now) Carolina University (was Piedmont International University at the time I graduated). You can read my dissertation (related to the nature and extent of Christ's atonement) and a couple of other articles I've had published at my Academia.edu profile.

Some Personal Highlights

  • I am a Christian (💬 about my faith if you want to know more) and Bible-scholar (also have extensive rank on Biblical Hermeneutics Stack Exchange).
  • I am happily married (no children; looking into adoption after a/A graduation).
  • I enjoy reading speculative fiction (primarily fantasy genre) books, and both fantasy and sci-fi movies.
  • I enjoy walking, hiking, and riding bikes.
  • I grew up in Oregon, have lived in Florida and North Carolina, and currently am in the state of Washington.
  • In today's world, you may want to know that I identify as he/his/him for my pronouns.
