However, I'd rather have all my templates and stuff within the obsidian vault and push them via git to the internal nginx. Thus, I have everything in one place and version control for my templates.

You can adjust the supported extensions in the following lines:
Lines 88 to 95 in d100137
you need to replace (.*?.pdf)
with something like this (.*?.(pdf|docx|ppx))
and also \\2
with \\2\\3
If this works I can add some more extensions into the next release
