I've figured out what went wrong.
While in the process of designing my API, I had created a controller I had planned to use to request chat history etc.
I called it ChatController and decorated it with the [Route("[controller]")] attribute, and then promptly forgot about it and started working on the SignalR part.
That controller, of course, conflicts with the hub endpoint I've been trying to connect to this whole time.
