Also how did you install sequelize-cli ? because if there is not a bug, it seems that you are using sequelize 1.7.9 which should not be possible as the latest 1.7.x still bundles its own cli

I installed using npm i sequelize-cli -g

The point of a -cli package is typically to provide a separate global executable (not something in node_modules/.bin/) which may interact the non-global package through a local package in development in some way. It may change settings of the package in development during init to set it up to use the local package. And it may integrate and call local versions of the non-cli library to do the things like migrations.
I'm starting to guess sequelize-cli isn't designed like that.

i actually always use local packages and never global ones. So chances are, that you will not be able to uses it globally at this point. Can install it locally and give it another try? And if it is working then, please file a new ticket, that describes the issue with the global installation

As you said the current version of sequelize already has its own cli so I can't install sequelize-cli locally. But the local sequelize does work and code wise I don't see any reason why sequelize-cli wouldn't work locally.
