Can tell us how you try to run the container? The image is used in cloudbreak with --net=host and it works perfectly. If you try to run like this: docker run -it sequenceiq/ambari:1.6.0 --net=host that is wrong. Besides what OS are you using?

Btw try with this: docker run -d --net=host sequenceiq/ambari:1.6.0 --tag ambari-server=true

on Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 it's working now on bare metal. My mistake probably was to use Vagrant? It's not working on Vagrant with precise64 and a docker 1.3.0 install.
Debug output is the same on docker logs (I included the --log-level debug param)

while we do not use Vagrant it should work - as a reference you should check this in our repository: https://github.com/sequenceiq/vagrant-boxes
