you're not using the spin extension by sha, by using 0.15 it's using from main which is using containerd v3 config which is going to be supported by talos 1.8+

Oh, I'm using the version without the sha. Thanks for pointing that out! Will try using it.

In the meantime, by any chance, do you known how to configure renovate to track the versions like that?

probably not, (since we publish extension for more than one version of talos, an updated digest may not necessarily mean and updated image) hence we recommend using image factory where it tracks all these and you just bump the talos version in the schematic url

using the extension versions that match the talos version this is now working as expected.
