As long as JSESSIONID User Sessions authentication is marked as legacy in Developer's Guide - Winter 2014 I would advocate for the implementation of this feature.

Another good reason to go for it:
"The response, as stated above, provides you with an Access Token which has a set lifetime of 4 hours."
