talk.js - Feb 2024

Title of your topic

  • GraphQL - Resolvers + Typescript = Magic

Topic description

  • Building GraphQL servers can be frustrating and tedious. You have to write extra schema files, interfaces, and types for GraphQL fields and and arguments, write resolvers and then keep them in sync. You have to deal with type mismatches, typos, and refactoring issues. TypeScript functions already have all the information we need to generate a complete GraphQL API (including the schema and resolvers) using type annotations and docblock hints. This forms a single source of truth and completely eliminates the need for redundant boilerplate code. It lets you leverage the power of type inference to build type safe GraphQL APIs. In this demo, I will show you how to generate a complete GraphQL server using Hasura by writing only TypeScript functions that contain logic without building/writing API servers from scratch. This talk will change the way you think about building APIs with TypeScript.

[org] Clean up & document `SingaporeJS` Github repos

(converted from Erik's card on the project board)

There are many repos in our org that I don't have any idea about, I think we should clean them up and document about what's left.

Some actionable items I suggest:

  • Remove deprecated Gitter-related stuffs if we decide to permanently to Telegram
  • Reduce to properly 2-3 repos:
    • This repo for talk.js
    • Probably singaporejs.github.io for our website and other things
    • (Optional) organisers repo for internal stuffs (although I think we can use singaporejs repo for it

To do? (get all votes then we move forwards with it)

Talk Submission for October or November

Hello! My name is Ari Waller and I am the Meetup Event Manager for JFrog. I'd like to propose a talk for one of our Software Engineers.

Title of your topic
Quadtree and its implementation on Maps using D3

Topic description
Have you noticed in a World map, where, markers are used to represent something? The markers when seen at the beginning appear close between two locations and when zoomed in, appears far away. If the cities are too close it can even overlap each other. It will look ugly isn't it? In this talk we will explore the Quadtree approach which can be used to search for geometric points in a plane accurately and instantly and how this can be used in clustering.

Presenter(s)
Gunaseelan Narayanan
Front End Developer @ JFrog

Presenter's bio
Guna is a Front End Developer working at JFrog India in Bangalore. He started his career with Mindtree as a Junior Engineer. He has experience in many front end frameworks during his term at Mindtree and at Jfrog. He is specialized in Visualisations using D3. He is an open source contributor in Billboard.js which is a JavaScript chart library, based on D3. When he is not coding he is a sports enthusiast and a gamer.
