Would be great to have a Discourse

This would be awesome! :)
I'm not a fan of chat communities (Discord, Matrix...): The knowledge is quickly lost, and it's very easy to mix a lot of conversations.
Yes, please no chat community. As you wrote, information is lost/missed quickly, and there seems to be no easy way to start threads to talk about a specific topic. I basically never participate in chat communities (besides asking questions sometimes, and hoping someone sees my question before it get lost).
If possible, something with an RSS feed would be great.
Sub-Reddits are a bit better than chat communities, but still pretty crappy compared to a regular forum, IMO (discussions on Reddit basically always only last until a couple of hours after posting. 95% or so of all comments are posted within the first 24 hours, normally).

Why not have both, forum and discord?
Forum for p2p learning, topic threads etc technical stuff that is easy to search.
Private Discord (for book buyers only) for hanging out, fast communication, and generally easier to access than forums.

I'd recommend Zullip.
It's open source and has an easy to use web client. There's also an official TUI.
It doesn't have the aforementioned problems of traditional chat communities because of the topic-based threading and effective search.
In my opinion it's like the best of forums and chat communities combined.

I have experience with moderating subreddits so I created https://www.reddit.com/r/rust_security, would love more moderators and people willing to contribute there.
