Thanks for that, it should prove very useful for lots of people. Will it work in the project if the rules are in the file where the field is declared?

Also, if you'd like to submit a pull request, I can merge it in right away (but please make sure to catch exceptions in the south import, for people who don't use it), otherwise I can do it myself tomorrow.

That code snippet is typically inserted at the bottom of the file where the field is declared. As long as it gets loaded whenever the field is used somewhere it should be fine.

I didn't make a pull request yet, because I've not had time to create the appropriate rules for the other fields. I just happened to use AutoOneToOneField in one of my projects using south.

I'll see if you can put together a pull request for all the fields sometime this week.
