No special reason. In theory, the C++ backend will deconstruct and release the memory automatically. And of course it is safer to have one.

I just want to make sure that things like
for (i in manyIdFiles) {
x <- openIDfile(i)
xx <- add(xx, x)
}
do not end up randomly segfaulting. If the backend does the right thing automatically, then fine.
What about the close method for the mzRramp
backend; is it really needed?
