In the current implementations, the result set data from S3/Blob are in JSON like formats without the initial and tailing square brackets. The data are compressed in the S3/Blob and decompressed as the client read them. So the files in the network are still compressed.

There is a plan to change the result set format from JSON to something better but not in the short term.

Yes, we compressed JSON-formatted query results in S3 and decompress them after downloading from the S3 buckets. So data is compressed during transmission. We'll improve the format in the near future.
